What's your most popular product or service?

Live fish of course, but we are widely known for our excellent service, wide selection and most of all expert advice.

What's a fact about your business that most customers probably don't know?

Mike and Dave are NOT brothers! everyone assumes we are...

When was the business founded?

1987

How did your business come to be?

Dave and Mike, the owners of The Aquarium Shop worked for the prior owners in the early 1980s. When the prior owners retired in 1987, Dave and Mike purchased the building and changed the shop into The Aquarium Shop specializing in Freshwater and Saltwater Tropical Fish.

Why did you choose the area you did?

Both Dave and Mike grew up in the area and shopped at all the local Pet Stores, including the shop they ended up buying. Back in the 1980s Royal Oak was a sleepy little bedroom community with plenty of families, our target audience. Royal Oak is still a bedroom community, but hardly sleepy! Owning a small retail store in Downtown Royal Oak is exciting. Seeing the city change over the years has been interesting, and we are looking forward to seeing the North Main Street area become revitalized.
