UPDATE: Power Will Be Off for Some 'Until Late Saturday Night'

More than 6,000 homes and businesses in Royal Oak are still without power early Thursday afternoon after a powerful storm tore through southeast Michigan Wednesday evening. And for many, the lights will remain out for at least two more days.

As of early Thursday afternoon, 210,000 customers in southeast Michigan are still without power – an increase from 190,000 this morning due to storms that moved through the area, DTE spokeswoman Eileen Dixon said Thursday afternoon.

In neighboring communities, more than 2,000 were without power in Clawson, more than , and more than 800 were without power in Troy as of late Thursday morning.

"It looks like we won't be back to normal until late Saturday night," Dixon said. "But, that's based on the premise we're not going to get any more bad weather. ... All of our crews are working 16-hour shifts, and they're working around the clock."

"This is the fourth storm we've had since Tuesday morning, so we have to keep reassessing priorities," DTE spokesman Scott Simons said Thursday morning. "But, we do know the restoration process will take us into the weekend."

Simons said the utility company had reduced the outage number from Tuesday's storms to 17,000 before a Wednesday evening storm hit, followed by what DTE experienced as the most severe storm of the week overnight.

"We've got more than 1,000 power lines down," in southeast Michigan, Dixon said. "It's a big job ahead of us."

DTE has recalled 100 linemen who were sent to Ohio to help with repairs after storms there last week.

The power outages coincide with a heat wave that has enveloped southeast Michigan for days. An excessive heat warning remains in effect for Royal Oak and surrounding areas until 9 p.m. Friday.
