Lady Hornets Improved in Loss to Saginaw Arhur Hill

Coach Waltz said the team is building on the positives after losing to one of the state's best teams.

Just 24 hours after getting their doors blown off at Ann Arbor Huron, the Saline varsity girls basketball team regrouped to put in a solid, four-quarter effort in a 60-53 loss at home to Saginaw Arthur Hill.

Britten Clark scored 13 points and Kelsey Pelletier added 11 points in Saline's second biggest offensive night of the year (The Hornets scored 56 at Milan). Katie Crysler, Melssa Needham, Amanda Price and Caitlin Ellis scored six points each. Alison Rentschler chipped in with five points.

The Hornets had trouble with Shanesha Blair, who scored 34 points and grabbed 20 rebounds.

Saline fell to 2-7 while Arthur Hill improved to 8-2.

"I saw flashes of good things in the Huron game and we built on them tonight and put forward one of the most complete efforts we've had all season," said Saline head coach Jeff Waltz. "We've been preaching discipline and fundamentals. We didn't beat ourselves tonight. I thought we handled their pressure and were able to get the ball up the floor for some easy baskets."

Waltz said the game was a big step forward.

"We did our best to contain (Blair), but she's a great player. Still we stayed close to them all night," Waltz said. "Now we've got to take what we did here and and show we can be patient and disciplined as we resume league play."
