The crash occurred about 1 p.m. The vehicles left the freeway and came to rest in a wooded area behind Home Depot on Carpenter Road. The driver of the passenger vehicle was extricated by and transported to the hospital with serious injuries, according to a press release issued by the fire department. There was extensive damage to both vehicles, according to the fire department.
