Saline LAX Team Loses Opener 10-9 in Overtime
Tommy Hickey scored three goals to lead the Hornets.
The Hornets varsity boys’ lacrosse team lost 10-9 overtime thriller at
Holt tied the game with seven seconds left in the fourth quarter and then won it in the extra session.
Saline was down 3-0 early in the game before Colin Cerderna scored his first of three goals from Brad Harris to put the Hornets on the board. Tommy Hickey the first of his three goals scored from Nick Karapas for Saline’s other goal as the Hornets were down 4-2 after the first quarter.

The Hornets owned the second quarter. After Holt scored to make it 5-2, Hickey scored his second goal of the game with 5:44 to play in the second quarter. Harris drew the assist. With three minutes to play, Karapas curled from sideline to the middle and ripped a shot past the goalie to make it 5-4. Harris tied the game on nearly the exact same play with 48 seconds to play in the half.
Holt regained their lead with 9:23 to play in the third. With 3:27 to play in the third, Cederna passed to Karapas, who scored to tie the game. Saline took its first lead of the game with 1:35 to play in the quarter when Cederna scored from Mike Andreis.

Saline led 7-6 going into the fourth. Holt tied the game with 7:04 to play in the fourth, but Saline scored two goals to take a 9-7 lead. Hickey completed the hat trick with an assist going to Harris. And then Cederna completed his hat trick on a pass from Karapas with 4:38 to play. But 32 seconds later Holt scored to make it a one-goal game.
Saline plays Okemos at 2 p.m. Saturday at Saline High School.
