What Do You Think About Pay-to-Participate Fees for Students, Saline?

Saline Area Schools Superintendent Scot Graden will make a recommendation April 9 on the district's athletics and activities fees.

Saline Area Schools Superintendent Scot Graden is expected to make a recommendation next week on the district's pay-to-participate athletics and activities fees.

The Saline Board of Education requested the input following a March 26 discussion of the escalating costs and their impact on the district's students, according to The Saline Reporter.

The current fees are as followings, the newspaper and Saline Area Schools report.

  • Saline High School student athlete: $325
  • Saline Middle School student athlete: $275
  • Activity clubs: $40
  • Marching band: $345

“Over the last six to seven years we have been increasing the burden on parents ... ,” Board of Education President David Holden said, according to The Saline Reporter. “We  are reaching the breaking point.”

"I think it's become way too expensive to participate," Leela Riggs wrote on the Saline Patch Facebook page.

Superintendent Graden is due to make a recommendation on the fees during the Board of Education meeting on April 9.
