Deadline Extended for Shelby Lions Club Graduating Student Scholarship

The Shelby Lions Club will be accepting applications for the 2012 graduating senior scholarship until June 15.

Seniors can enter for a chance to win a $1,000 scholarship to help them get through the first year of college.

The scholarship is for students who exhibit a strong academic background as well as outstanding public service credentials.

The students are asked to provide school transcripts, a letter of recommendation and an essay explaining how the scholarship will help them achieve their future career goals.

And since volunteer work is one of the Lions Club’s core principals, the students had to prove their dedication to their community.

Last year, the Lions Club gave away five scholarships.

“We thought there was a great need with the economy as it is, and we awarded an extra scholarship,” said Chairperson for the Shelby Township Scholarship Committee, 41-A District Court Judge Douglas Shepherd.
