Architectural Firm Will Look Into Redesign of Former Shelby Police Building

Just weeks after the Shelby Police Department transferred their operations to a newly built $, the Board of Trustees have agreed to allow an architectural firm to rework plans for the former department, which is in the basement of the municipal hall.

For $5,500 French and Associates of Rochester will work up a plan to create more room from the existing departments in the lower level of the building.

The former police department will still be used for police purposes, such as meetings and trainings but part of the original plan will be modified to improve the functionality of the other three departments that remain there.

“We’re looking at taking the police meeting room and exercise room and maybe working it into more space for the finance department and possibly expanding the accessing department,” said Building Director Tim Wood.

Wood added that the IT department is also in need of more space.

“We believe there is a way to affordably modify the original plans,” he said.

The Board of Trustees must approve French and Associates’ plan and budget for the redesign project before any construction will begin.
