Get a Sneak Peek Inside Shelby Township’s Newest Senior Care Facility

Shelby Crossing Health Campus at the corner of 21 Mile Road and Schoenherr is scheduled to open Feb. 18, offering assisted living, adult day services, long-term care, short-term rehab and memory care.

Designed to serve an aging Macomb County population, Shelby Township’s newest senior care facility is scheduled to open this month at the corner of 21 Mile Road and Schoenherr.

Shelby Crossing Health Campus, which offers assisted living, long-term care, adult day services, short-term rehab and skilled nursing, will welcome its first residents on Feb. 18. A second building designed for memory care, is due to open later this spring.

With nearly 250,000 Macomb County residents expected to be age 65 or older by the year 2040, senior living promises to become a highly competitive business. To set its own facility apart from other senior care offerings in the area, Executive Director Ann Kochanski said Shelby Crossing promises “the most state-of-the-art, passion-driven customer service."

Celebrating its grand opening Feb. 7 with a ribbon cutting through the Sterling Heights Chamber of Commerce, guests were given a sneak-peak at just what that promise entails.

Of the 97 beds the health campus will eventually provide, not including those in the memory care building, many are designated as “deluxe suites” and set up like studio apartments with a small kitchen area, bathroom and living/bedroom area.

Two dining rooms serve residents on fine linen, china and glassware three times a day, and fresh fruit is available throughout the building 24 hours a day, as is coffee and juice.

An eat-as-you-please breakfast option allows residents to order according to their daily tastes while lunch and dinner menus are guided by resident preferences.

Living rooms scattered throughout the building are designed to encourage residents to socialize with one another, while a salon, game room and indoor fountain provide additional methods of relaxation.

As the facility is designed for seniors with a variety of needs, skilled and licensed staff offer physical, occupational and speech therapy on site, and a Henry Ford Macomb physician is on-call seven days a week.

And for seniors not requiring this level of care, but preferring to live in a community all the same, Shelby Crossing offers monthly theme nights, Friday Happy Hours, an outdoor putting green and special trips.

As of last week, half of the facility’s 40 assisted living beds and 57 skilled nursing beds had already been reserved.
