Recall Language Against Shelby Township Trustees Approved

Petition organizers must collect 6,318 valid signatures by Aug. 5 to get the recall efforts against Stathakis, Viar and Flynn on the November 2011 ballot.

The Macomb County Elections Committee early Friday approved the language on the , finding the language to be valid.

That means recall organizer Tom Delise can start collecting signatures on the six recall petitions he filed against Supervisor Richard Stathakis, Treasurer Paul Viar and Trustee Michael Flynn.

Two petitions were filed against each of the trustees. The petitions cite zoning votes about land on 24 Mile Road and Schoenherr.

The commission does not address the validity of the charges; it only decides whether the language is clear.

Delise must collect 6,318 valid voter signatures by Aug. 5 to get the recall on the November 2011 ballot.

"It's time to move on," Stathakis said last month. "There's another election for township offices next year, and there's no point in wasting any more time or money on this. It just distracts us from doing our jobs."
