ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI — Michigan's primary election is Aug. 6 and residents in St. Clair Shores have races to cast ballots in. City council and two special proposals will need to be decided on.

Proposal A
The ordinance would enact a tax rate of 1.75 mills per year for five years beginning in July 2020. The millage would replace an expiring street millage for street construction, repairs, and lighting as well as sewer repairs and construction. The proposal is estimated to raise more than $2 million in its first year.

The ordinance would levy 4.8 mills per $1,000 of taxable value for three years beginning in July 2020. The millage would replace an existing millage that partially funds the police and fire departments, and is expected to produce more than $7 million in its first year.

Polls open in Michigan at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. If you are standing in line at 8 p.m., you will be permitted to vote.

Do I need my voter registration card in order to vote?
You do not need a voter registration card. As long as you are in the correct polling location, your name will appear on the registration list supplied to your precinct.
Do I need to show identification in order to vote?
Michigan does have a voter identification requirement at the polls. Voters are asked to present an acceptable photo ID such as a Michigan driver's license or identification card.
