Rizzo Environmental Services Takes Over Waste Contract
Rizzo Environmental Services begins trash, yard waste and recycling collection Monday in St. Clair Shores.

A new waste hauler will serve St. Clair Shores starting Monday.
Rizzo Environmental Services received an eight-year contract with St. Clair Shores in April, and will begin collecting trash and yard waste Monday.
Here are tips and information about the service, according to the city:
- Collection days will remain the same.
- Place your trash, yard waste, and recycling at the curb between 6 p.m. the day before, and 7 a.m. the day of your normally scheduled service.
- Maximum container size for curbside collection of trash andyard waste is 32 gallons with a weight limit of 60 pounds. Larger carts are available for trash and recycling only.
- Rizzo Services recommends using 1.5 mil thickness plastic bags in trash containers to prevent leakage and breaking during service.
- Rizzo Services will pick up bulk items placed curbside on normal collection days.
- Any appliance that contains freon gas such as refrigerators and freezers (for safety remove all doors) and air conditioners may be set out at the curb on your scheduled day.
- Residents may also place washers, dryers, water heaters, stoves, furnaces, microwaves, garbage disposals, trash compactors, heat pumps, water softeners and other large and small appliances curbside.
- Living room, dining room, bedroom and office furniture are picked up at no charge to residents.
- Porcelain can cause serious injury when broken and placed at the curb for collection and disposal. Whenever possible, secure with duct tape or cover the sharp edges with cardboard, tape and mark broken.
- Rizzo Services will pick up small amounts of building materials 1/4 yard or less and properly contained. Rizzo Services will not pick up bricks in any quantity.
- Large brush is available for disposal of large pieces of brush generated by non-commercial removal from a single-familyresidential property. The program runs from April 1 through the second Friday in December. Residents must call Rizzo Services directly at 1-866-772-8900 by 4 p.m. the day before their regular service day (Friday if your service day is Monday). Collection will not take place unless you call.
- Yard waste must be placed in paper lawn bags, or in 20 to 32 gallon containers clearly marked yard waste. Containers must have watertight lids, handles, and cannot exceed 60 pounds when filled. All brush 4 feet or less in length and not greater than 4 inches in diameter must be placed in marked yard waste bags or tied in bundles weighing 60 pounds or less. Place curbside on your regular service day.
- As part the new contract, Rizzo will supply a 64 gallon recycling container at no charge to residents who request one. Call them directly at (866) 772-8900. The City will also sell 64 and 96 gallon trash containers to residents who need a larger container for rubbish. The 64 gallon containers are $38 each; the 96 gallon containers are $43 each. Use of the larger containers for recycling or waste collection is voluntary. Residents may continue to use the 18 gallon blue recycling containers or a 32 gallon waste can. Residents who choose to use the 64 gallon recycling carts may keep their 18 gallon bin or place it in their 64 gallon cart for recycling pickup by Rizzo Environmental Services.
- Residents who want a larger trash or recycling container can order and pay for them at City Hall, 27600 Jefferson Circle Dr. Trash and recycling carts will be delivered to your home the week of July 8.
