Here is what we know according to Beverly Watts, director of Wayne County Parks:

  • Construction on the spray park was delayed due to late winter thaw followed by an extremely wet and rainy spring.
  • A spray park, also called a splash pad, is a mini water park for kids — with all kinds of buckets, jets and sprinklers for getting wet, splashing and running around.
  • Though the original project completion date was for mid-June, the project now has a new projected completion date at the end of July. No specific date was given.
  • The park will be about 8,500-square feet and has a potable, or clean and drinkable, water system. The new park will include 13 different features made up of more than 40 various spray apparatuses, including water tunnels, sprays, fan jets and other spray amenities.
  • The spray park will be located next to the Skate Park at Elizabeth Park.
  • The park cost about $66,000 and was paid for by funds from the Parks Capital Improvement Program budget.
  • There is no charge for the spary park.
