News Brief: Pay to Play Increases at Trenton Public Schools
The amount of money a student must pay to participate in school sports has gone up.

Parents and students will have to fork over a little more dough for high school and middle school sports next year.
The Athletic Participation Fees for the 2011-12 school year have been increased at both schools.
At fees increased from $115 to $130 and at fees increased from $65 to $80 per sport.

The increase is effective July 1, 2011, and was approved at Monday's meeting.
The recently approved 2011-12 school year budget cut $100,000 out of the athletics budget and Superintendent John Savel said the increase would offset the total loss by about $15,000.

Bret Woodley, athletic director at Trenton Public Schools, has already begun initiating fundraisers to make up for the budget cuts.
"He is trying to offer the same high-quality program they have now, so he is trying to raise revenues in various ways," Savel said.
In relation to the recent for general education students, transportation to and from games will not be provided by the district.
