Next the person(s) went to the living room and located a small safe that belongs to the woman’s daughter. According to police the person(s) pried the electronic face off the safe to reveal a back up key lock used in the event that the battery in the electronic face dies.
Police said the safe appeared to be opened with a key.
The woman reported that the safe contained about $1,250 in an envelope.
The daughter’s purse was dumped out, but nothing appeared to be missing according to the report.
Police examined the ground below the window and the dusty and dirty windowsill where the alleged entry was made. Police said there were no signs of footprints or disturbed dirt on the windowsill.
Police also said the window is about 10 to 12 feet above the ground and would appear to make it impossible for one person to enter without the assistance of a ladder or accomplice boosting them up to the window.
The alleged crime, according to police, appeared to have been performed by someone familiar with the apartment.
Officers could not find any solid and processable evidence at the scene.
Later the same day, the woman called police to inform them that she found her cell phone broken and lying in the backyard. Police said she had tried to put the phone back together, thereby contaminating any latent fingerprints.
