Drunken Driving, Driving Under the Influence Incidents: Oct. 12-15, 2012

The following information was obtained from the Troy Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following information about recent incidents of drunken driving and driving under the influence is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media release. This information may be edited for clarity or style. Note: In Michigan, the Blood Alcohol Content legal limit is .08 percent.

I-75 and Crooks, 12:57 p.m. on Oct. 12, 2012

A citizen called Troy Police to report a suspected drunk driver that was all over the roadway and had side-swiped three vehicles. A Troy Officer located and stopped the suspect vehicle. The driver’s license was suspended and the 53-year-old Orion man was disoriented and sluggish. Following an investigation he was arrested for “Operating under the Influence of Drugs” and “Driving While License Suspended.” A prescription bottle containing a white substance was found in his car. It will be sent to the lab for analysis. A blood test was administered and results are pending.

Big Beaver and John R, 4:13 a.m. on Oct. 13, 2012

A Troy Officer observed a vehicle stopped at a red light. When the light turned green the vehicle failed to move and missed the light cycle. The officer investigated and found both the driver and the front seat passenger asleep with the vehicle running and in “drive.” The driver was awakened and the vehicle was put in park and the engine turned off. The driver was groggy and had slow/slurred speech. He did not know his current location. The 22-year-old Detroit resident was in possession of two types of prescription controlled substances which he states he “buys on the street.” After demonstrating very poor balance he was arrested and charged with “Operating under the Influence of Drugs” and “Possession of a Controlled Substance.” A blood test was administered and results are pending.

1000 block of Oakcrest, 3:20 a.m. on Oct. 14, 2012

Troy Officers were dispatched to the area after a neighbor reported a suspicious occupied vehicle. Officers located the vehicle which was occupied by four teenagers. The odor of marijuana and intoxicants was coming from within the vehicle. The occupants stated they were playing with an Ouija board. Following an investigation, two males from Troy, ages 17 and 18, were arrested and charged with “Possession of Marijuana”, and “Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia.” Two females, both 16-year-old Troy residents, were arrested for “Open Intoxicants in a Motor Vehicle,” “Possession of Marijuana,” “Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia” and “Minor Consuming or Possessing Alcohol.” They were turned over to their parents and will be petitioned to Probate Court.

Square Lake and Dequindre, 2:48 a.m. on Oct. 13, 2012

Troy Officers stopped a vehicle after observing it weaving, repeatedly crossing lane markers, and driving alternately between 20 and 40 miles per hour. The driver appeared to be extremely intoxicated and thought he was at Auburn and Adams.  The 33-year-old Rochester Hills man smelled of intoxicants, had very bloodshot/glassy eyes, slurred speech and poor balance. He was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated 3rd Offense” and “Violation of a Restricted License.” Breath test results were .16%.

I-75 and Adams, 9:02 a.m. on Oct. 12, 2012

A Troy Officer stopped a vehicle after observing it traveling at 90 miles per hour on I-75, weaving, and crossing onto lane markers. The driver, a 32-year-old Ontario man smelled of intoxicants and had slurred speech. After failing sobriety tests he was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated.” A blood test was administered and results are pending.

Rochester and Troywood, 11:09 p.m. on Oct. 12, 2012

A Troy Officer stopped a vehicle that was traveling on Rochester Road without any headlights on. The vehicle was occupied by three adults and three children, ages 2, 5 and 6. The driver smelled of intoxicants, had slurred speech and was very agitated and uncooperative. The 50-year-old Troy man was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated” and “Child Endangerment.” Breath test results were .14%.

Big Beaver and Rochester, 1:40 a.m. on Oct. 14, 2012

A Troy Officer stopped a vehicle that he observed driving erratically. The driver smelled of intoxicants, had bloodshot eyes and stated she had been “looking for a way to get back on the freeway.” After failing sobriety tests the 25-year-old Shelby Township woman was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated.” Breath test results were .11%.

John R & Square Lake, 7:32 p.m. on Oct. 14, 2012

A citizen reported that he was following a vehicle that had rear ended his vehicle in another jurisdiction and fled the scene. The citizen followed the vehicle into Troy. A Troy Officer located the suspect vehicle, observed it cross over the center lane of John R and performed a traffic stop. The driver smelled of intoxicants, had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. His shirt was ripped and the driver explained that he had just come from a wake where he had been in a physical confrontation with someone. The 51-year-old Clinton Township man failed sobriety tests and was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated.” Breath test results were .16%. The driver who had followed the suspect, stated that the suspect rear ended his car and then hit a guardrail on M-59.
