Suspected Tip Jar Thief Facing Multiple Charges: Police
The suspect led Troy Police on a short foot chase before being arrested at Somerset Collection North.

TROY, MI — A 20-year-old Detroit man was arrested on multiple charges after allegedly stealing money from a tip jar, according to a Troy Police report. The man was leaving a W. Big Beaver Haagen Dazs ice cream shop at about 7:30 on Oct. 2 when he grabbed a $5 bill from the tip jar, reports said.
Store employees called police and an officer found the Detroit man walking on the south side of W. Big Beaver near Lakeview Drive. When the suspect spotted the officer, reports said he took off running and ducked into a Somerset Collection - North store.
The officer chased him, found and arrested him, reports said. The Detroit man didn’t have identification and when asked, provided a phony name, reports said.

After arriving at the Troy Police station, officers found a bag of suspected marijuana. Reports said it was tested and confirmed as marijuana.

The Detroit man was charged with Larceny in a Building, Hinder and Obstruction of a Police Officer, and Possession of Marijuana, according to Troy Police.
