Thieves Smash 13 Car Windows, Steal Items in Parking Lot Mass Break-In

Among the items stolen Sunday morning were designer sunglasses, GPS units, DVDs and $350 in wrapped baby shower gifts.

A Troy police officer responded to the parking lot of the Drury Inn in Troy Sunday morning after receiving a report that several car windows had been smashed overnight.

Upon arriving, the officer learned windows on 13 vehicles had been smashed using a window punch. The windows of two additional vehicles were cracked but not broken in apparent break-in attempts.

According to a media release from the Troy Police Department, four of the affected vehicles were ransacked, though nothing was taken. In the other nine vehicles, several items were stolen, including: GPS units, wireless head sets, clothing, DVDs, loose change, a Sirius radio, $350 in wrapped baby shower gifts, two portable DVD players, designer sunglasses and two GPS connector cables.

The vehicles were all either owned or rented by hotel guests. Troy Police officers collected evidence at the scene, which is being analyzed by the crime lab.
