Troy Police Blotter Update: Fraud, Operating Under The Influence

Last week's update from Troy Police contained two OUI, one disorderly conduct, and much more. See what area police have been up to.

TROY, MI — The Troy Police Department released an update Dec 29, detailing crimes they've investigated in the area. The Dec. 29 report details 11 arrests total, and police received calls for larceny, retail fraud and operating while intoxicated.

Macy’s Department Store Parking Lot, 500 W. Fourteen Mile Road, 12/28/2017, 12:08 AM: Officers responded to the location on report of a Private Property Accident. The officers spoke with the at-fault driver, a 23 year old female from Warren, who stated she drove into the rear end of a vehicle before losing control of her vehicle. The driver’s blue 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Pick-up became lodged onto some concrete boulders, breaking off the left rear tire from its axle. The driver admitted she was trying to do donuts in the parking lot but was unsuccessful. The driver also admitted to having consumed 2 drinks containing alcohol. She was asked to perform several sobriety evaluations to which she did but the officers noted that she performed poorly. She submitted to a Preliminary Breath Test with a result of .16%. She was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia.

E. Big Beaver Road and Rochester Road, 12/28/2017, 4:06 AM: Officer initiated a traffic stop on the driver of a silver 2008 Pontiac G6 that was being driven erratically. The officer spoke with the driver, a 27 year old male from Mt. Clemens, and noted an odor of alcohol emanating from him. The driver was asked to perform several sobriety evaluations to which he did but the officer noted that he performed poorly. He submitted to a Preliminary Breath Test with a result of .159%. He was also found to be in possession of a bag in suspected marijuana in the left pocket of his coat. The suspected marijuana was field tested with a narcotics test kit with the officers receiving a positive reaction for the presence of marijuana. Found in the driver’s door pocket of his vehicle was a marijuana pipe. He was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol – 1st Offense, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia.

Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile

Macy’s Department Store Parking Lot, 500 W. Fourteen Mile Road, 12/28/2017, 1:00 PM – 1:45 PM: Victim discovered unknown suspect(s) stole his green 2000 Chevrolet Silverado Pick-up Truck while it was parked in the northwest section of the parking lot. The victim states the vehicle was locked and the vehicle contained his winter jacket, gym bag, shoes, weight-lifting belt, and a set of headphones.

Retail Fraud

Macy’s Department Store, 500 W. Fourteen Mile Road, 12/27/2017, 3:50 PM: A 33 year old male from Highland Park, came to the business and attempted to steal $90 worth of merchandise for sale in the store before being stopped by Loss Prevention. He was arrested by the responding officers and charged with Retail Fraud – 3rd Degree.

T. J. Maxx, 350 John R Road, 12/1/2017, 2:15 PM: Loss Prevention Officer reports a 25 year old female from Madison Heights that was arrested for a previous retail fraud on 12/12/2017, was also involved in a retail fraud on 12/1/2017. On that day, the suspect stole $244.77 worth of store merchandise. The business wishes to seek additional criminal charges against the suspect for Retail Fraud – 3rd Degree through the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.

Macy’s Department Store, 500 W. Fourteen Mile Road, 12/29/2017, 10:18 PM: A 23 year old female and a 22 year old female, both from Detroit, came to the business and attempted to steal $379 and $461.50 worth of merchandise for sale in the store before being stopped by Loss Prevention. The suspects were also found to be in possession of items stolen from Bed, Bath, and Beyond which would be returned to that business. Both suspects were arrested by the responding officers and charged with Retail Fraud – 2nd Degree. The 22 year old suspect was also found to have a bag of suspected marijuana in her purse. The suspected marijuana was field tested with a narcotics test kit with the officers receiving a positive reaction for the presence of marijuana. She received an additional charge of Possession of Marijuana.

Larceny

Lululemon Athletica Store, 2800 W. Big Beaver Road, 12/24/2017, 12:50 PM – 12:52 PM: Victim was completing a purchase at the store and set her bags on the register counter. After receiving her new purchase, she left the area without her previous purchased merchandise. After realizing her mistake, she returned to find unknown suspect(s) had stolen her property.

Credit, Check, Identity Theft, Other Fraud

5000 block of Cliffside Drive, 12/4/2017 – 12/21/2017: Victim was contacted by her credit card company advising her that unknown suspect(s) changed the address on her account to an address in Southfield. The victim also discovered six letters delivered to the address from the State of Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency for two unknown subjects who do not reside at the address. The victim is also missing some checks that have not been delivered to the address but does not know if they are all related. Victim did not give anyone permission to do such and does not know how her personal account information was compromised.

2000 block of Charter Drive, 11/30/2016 – 12/24/2017: Victim posted an ad on MINDIA.com to sell a mattress. He was contacted by a subject named Rasmi Choudhury who was interested in buying the merchandise. The subject set a check that was $1,100 over the asking price but the victim determined the check was fraudulent and did not return any funds to him. The victim did exchange driver’s licenses with the suspect and fears his identity may have been compromised. The suspect used an address in Farmington Hills.

Sak’s Fifth Avenue, 2901 W. Big Beaver Road, 12/24/2017, 5:05 PM: Victim received a receipt via e-mail from the business for a $2,559.90 purchase she did not make. She also discovered right before that purchase, a second fraudulent purchase was completed at the store for a $12,000 purchase. The victim did not give anyone permission to do such, does not know how her personal account information was compromised, and is still in possession of her credit card.
