TROY, MI — The Troy Police Department released an update Dec 31, detailing crimes they've investigated in the area. The report details 11 arrests total, and police received calls for narcotics, retail fraud and operating while intoxicated.

Townplace Suites Parking Lot, 325 Stephenson Highway, 12/30/2017 – 12/31/2017, 10:00 PM – 12:00 Midnight: Victim discovered unknown suspect(s) stole his gray 2006 GMC 2500 Pick-up Truck while it was parked in the west side of the parking lot. 17-40811

Northbound Interstate 75, North of W. Long lake Road, 12/31/2017, 10:44 PM: Officers responded to a traffic accident. Witnesses at the scene reported the driver of a 2005 Ford Expedition side-swiped a vehicle, then crashed into the guardrail. The driver turned the vehicle around and began traveling southbound in the northbound lanes, hitting another guardrail before becoming stuck in the median. Officers found a 56-year-old Fraser man in the driver’s seat and noted an odor of alcohol. When asked, the driver admitted to consuming two drinks. The driver performed poorly on several sobriety evaluations, police say. He submitted to a preliminary breath test with a result of .23%. He was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol – 3rd Offense and for Failing to Stop and Identify at an Accident.

Drugs/Narcotics

Southbound Lakeview Drive, North of Golfview, 12/30/2017, 1:38 AM: Officers attempting to stop the driver of a gold 1999 Ford Taurus for a traffic violation approached the vehicle and ordered the driver, a 29-year-old Troy man, out of the car. The driver complied and was arrested. The driver didn’t have his driver’s license and police later determined it to be suspended. He also did not have proof of insurance and had nine misdemeanor warrants out for his arrest. Inside the vehicle, police say they found a glass jar that contained a bag of suspected marijuana. The suspected marijuana field tested positive. The driver was arrested for disobeying a police officer’s signal, driving while license suspended, no vehicle insurance, and possession of marijuana.

Northwest Corner Parking Lot at W. Square Lake Road and Livernois Avenue, 12/30/2017, 11:01 AM: Officers responding to a request to check on the welfare of two people sleeping in a red 2012 Chevrolet Cruze parked in the lot. Officers noted two subjects slumped over in the vehicle. The officers opened the door and immediately noticed a glass crack pipe and a bag containing suspected narcotics. The officers woke the driver, a 21-year-old Auburn Hills man, as well as his passenger, a 22-year-old Williamsburg man. The officers also located two needles and two suspected heroin folds in the arm rest of the driver’s door. The bag of narcotics contained suspected bags of crack cocaine, a fold of suspected heroin, and a bag of suspected marijuana. The suspected crack cocaine field tested positive for cocaine. Both subjects were arrested for possession of heroin, possession of crack cocaine, and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

Retail Fraud

Sears, 300 W. Fourteen Mile Road, 12/30/2017, 2:00 PM: Officers responded after the store's loss prevention officers observed a man using a wire to remove jewelry from a locked case. The officers found the suspect, a 43-year-old Warren man, outside the store and arrested him. Police found several pieces of wire and a glass crack pipe in the pocket of his jacket. They also found several pieces of jewelry, one being valued at $979 that had been stolen from Sears. The suspect was charged with retail fraud – 1st degree, possession of burglary tools, and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

Macy’s Department Store, 500 W. Fourteen Mile Road, 12/30/2017, 3:57 PM: A 25-year-old Madison Heights woman attempted to steal $97 worth of merchandise before being stopped by loss prevention staff. The suspect was issued a misdemeanor citation for retail fraud – 3rd degree by the responding officers and released from the scene.

Macy’s Department Store, 2750 W. Big Beaver Road, 12/30/2017, 5:31 PM: A 26-year-old Swartz Creek woman attempted to steal $323.40 worth of merchandise before being stopped by loss prevention staff. She was arrested by the responding officers and charged with retail fraud – 3rd degree.

Macy’s Department Store, 500 W. Fourteen Mile Road, 12/31/2017, 7:27 PM: A 29-year-old woman from Windsor, Ontario attempted to steal $1,949.75 worth of merchandise before being stopped by loss prevention staff. She was found to be in possession of a pair of needle nose pliers that she used to remove anti-theft security sensors that were attached to the merchandise. She was arrested by the responding officers for retail fraud – 1st degree and possession of burglary tools.
