Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile

Midwest Acorn, 501 Executive Drive, Jan 8. Between 9 a.m. and noon. The plant manager used the company’s white 2011 Dodge Ram Truck to plow snow, leaving the vehicle with the keys in the ignition so other employees could use it later. Unknown suspect(s) stole the vehicle while it was parked in the west side parking lot. After discovering the theft, another employee checked his black 2011 Chevrolet Silverado Pick-up Truck and discovered that the suspect(s) had also pried open the cap to his vehicle and stolen tools he kept inside.

Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated

Westbound Alameda Boulevard, East of Rochester Road. Jan. 6. At 8:06 p.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle crash. The officers spoke with the at-fault driver, a 48-year-old Rochester woman, and say they smelled alcohol inside her vehicle. The driver, when asked, admitted to having consumed 2.5 drinks. The officers noted the driver’s child was also sitting inside the vehicle during the vehicle crash. She performed several field sobriety tests at the officers’ request, which officers say she performed poorly. She submitted to a Preliminary Breath Test with a result of .136% and was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol – 1st Offense and Child Endangerment.

Southbound Interstate 75, North of Maple Road. Jan. 8. At 6:55 p.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle crash. The officers spoke with the at-fault driver, a 48-year-old Warren man, and say he smelled of alcohol. The driver denied drinking drinking. He performed several sobriety tests at officers’ request, and the officers say he performed them poorly. He submitted to a Preliminary Breath Test with a result of .155% and was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol – 1 st Offense.

Assault and Battery

2000 block of Shelley Drive. Jan. 7. Several acquaintances were hanging out when an argument broke out over missing money. One of the group was accused of taking the money and was pushed to the ground. The victim covered his head while being kicked by several suspects but could not see who specifically was attacking him. Responding officers arrived and spoke with several witnesses. Officers determined which two subjects were the aggressors, and one of the suspects was still at the residence. An 18-year-old Troy man who is a resident in the home was arrested and charged with Assault and Battery. The officers were able to track down the second suspect, a 16-year-old they found at another residence in Troy. He was arrested and charged with Assault and Battery, and was then placed in the custody of his grandmother.

Drugs/Narcotics of Interest

William Beaumont Hospital, 44201 Dequindre Road. Jan. 7. At 8:45 p.m., Hospital security officers were called to a patient’s room by a nurse who thought the patient was acting suspicious and possibly using narcotics. The security officers spoke with the patient, a 33-year-old Armada man, and searched him. The security officers found a crack pipe in the patient’s right pants pocket. The patient then admitted to smoking crack in the hospital room’s bathroom. Police later found two suspected crack cocaine rocks in a plastic bag in the man’s pants pocket. Field testing with a narcotics kit drew a positive reaction for cocaine. The suspect was arrested and charged with Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia.

Retail Fraud

Kohl’s Department Store, 500 John R Road. Jan 7. At 11:50 a.m., an unknown female suspect attempted to steal $237 worth of merchandise before
being stopped by loss prevention staff. The suspect returned the stolen merchandise, but refused to return to the store. The loss prevention officers saw the suspect leave in a
black 2013 Ford Escape driven away by an unknown male. Responding officers were able to determine the suspect was a 45-year-old Highland Park woman and the driver was a 48-year-old Center Line man. The officers will seek criminal charges against the female suspect for Retail Fraud – 2nd Degree through the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.

Macy’s Department Store, 2750 W. Big Beaver Road. Jan 7. At 3:17 p.m, an 18-year-old
Detroit man tried to steal $249.50 worth of merchandise before being stopped by loss prevention staff. The suspect was issued a misdemeanor citation for Retail Fraud – 2nd Degree by the responding officers and released from the scene.

Apple Store, 2800 W. Big Beaver Road. Jan 8. At 6:32 p.m., a 21-year-old Detroit man tried to steal $159 worth of merchandise before being stopped by store security. The suspect was issued a misdemeanor citation for Retail Fraud – 3rd Degree by the responding officer and released from the scene.

Target, 1301 Coolidge Highway. Jan 8. At 8:25 p.m., A 32-year-old Detroit man tried to steal $194 worth of merchandise. He was arrested by the responding officers and searched. Officers found a pair of hand snips and a credit card belonging to an unknown subject. Officers contacted the credit card owner who told them she thought she lost the car at a Meijer’s Store in Royal Oak and that the suspect did not have permission to have it. The suspect was charged with Retail Fraud – 2nd Degree, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Illegal Possession of a Stolen Credit Card.

Larceny From Automobile

5000 block of Blair Drive. Jan 5. At 9:12 p.m., the victim received an alert from On-Star, indicating that his 2017 Chevrolet Silverado Pick-up Truck had been tampered with. The victim checked his vehicle, finding the driver’s door open and the interior dome light on. The victim did not find anything taken from his vehicle but the unknown suspect(s) damaged the window seal on the driver’s door, possibly with a “Slim Jim” device.

Larceny of Mails

1000 block of Welling Drive. Jan 8. Between 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., a package was stoled from the victim’s doorstep by an unknown suspect. The package had been delivered by UPS. Two packages left on the victim’s doorstep were tampered with last week, but nothing was taken, likely because the packages contained toilet parts.

Credit, Check, Identity Theft, Other Fraud

4000 block of Hyde Park Drive. Jan 6. The victim discovered that unknown suspect(s) used his name to open a Sprint Account with a current balance of $2,221. The victim did not give anyone permission to open the account and does not know how his personal information was compromised.

2000 block of Somerset Boulevard. Jan. 5. The victim was notified by his employer that
unknown suspect(s) had used her name to file for State of Michigan Unemployment Benefits. The victim did not give anyone permission to make this filing, and does not know how her personal information was compromised.

The Hills City Grill, 2940 Rochester Road. Jan 7. The restaurant manager said that around 10:30 p.m., two unknown woman ordered and consumed $16.41 worth of food before leaving without paying their tab.

3000 block of Highland Drive. Jan 8. At 11:45 a.m., the victim received a phone call from a person claiming to be with the United States Immigration Office. The victim was told she had not properly filled out her paperwork and she could be deported. She
was instructed to obtain $1,200 worth of iTunes Cards to avoid being taken to jail. The victim bought $500 worth of iTunes Cards which she provided to the suspect. When the
suspect became irritated and demanded the full amount, she disconnected the call. She spoke with her friends who informed her that she had been the victim of a scam.

Med Kas Hydraulics, Inc., 1419 John R Road. Jan 4. The victim was notified that unknown
suspect(s) used her name to file a fraudulent unemployment insurance claim. The victim did not give anyone permission to make the filing and doesn’t know how her personal information was compromised.
