Troy Police: Investigators Now Treating Missing Cyclist Case as Homicide
More than enough evidence was found in the basement of 55-year-old missing Troy cyclist Patrick Joseph Mikes' home for investigators to believe Mikes could not have survived the attack, Troy Police say.

announced Thursday afternoon that they are no longer treating the as a missing person investigation, but instead as a homicide investigation.
"It is believed that it is highly unlikely for someone to survive based on the evidence that was involved," Troy Police spokesman Capt. Robert Redmond said Thursday afternoon at a press conference in Troy. “Investigators are treating this as a homicide."
He added, “Our efforts have shifted from locating Mr. Mikes to locating his body.”

Redmond said police are "working on a timeframe from Friday morning until Sunday morning" in order to give investigators "a better idea” of where to search for Mikes' body.
Mikes was last seen alive by his 16-year-old son, Andrew Mikes, on Thursday evening, according to Redmond. Mikes did not show up for work Friday, and investigators now believe his 21-year-old son, Patrick Joseph Mikes Jr., who , did not see his father leaving for a bike ride on Friday, as he first reported to police Sunday morning.

Mikes Jr.'s next court appearance regarding the credit card fraud charges is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 6 before Judge Nancy Carniak at 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills.
