Troy School District And The City Of Troy Invite Community To Join MLK Jr. Day Of Service
The public is invited to join the day of service by doing things like donating blood and making care packages for Michigan military members.

TROY, MI — What are your plans for MLK Day? Here's one idea to check out: The Troy School District and city of Troy are banding together to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by hosting a day of service, which everyone in the community is invited to partake in, according to a press release.
The event will be held on Monday, Jan. 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Athens High School (4333 John R. Road) and will feature service projects that will benefit Troy residents both in town and those abroad serving in the military. For example, you can help out by writing cards to Troy-based members of the military in the Middle East, pack food boxes for Troy families in need, make no-sew fleece blankets for Beaumont Hospital patients, and donate blood to the Red Cross station.
Also, if you can't make the event but would still like to help, consider donating one of the below items. Donated goods can be dropped off at any Troy school:

-Fleece in 2.5 yard pieces - or fleece that can be cut into even amounts of 2.5 yards each
-Non-perishable food and cans

-Care package items for troops: Socks (crew sized, suitable with combat boots, not short. White or Black), foot powder, candy/gum, beef jerky, sunflower seeds/nuts, wet wipes, energy bars/granola bars, coffee/tea, sunblock, chapstick and Michigan/Detroit based sports stuff (nerf balls, pennants, t-shirts, bandanas, etc.).
