
Thursday marked the area’s tenth day with high temperatures below 20 degrees. With temperatures predicted to fall as low as -20 degrees by morning, Troy School District announced the cancellation of Friday classes last night.
According to the schools’ webpage: “Due to extremely cold temperatures and wind chill in the morning, all schools in the Troy School District are closed Friday, January 5th.” The website advises parents to check their email for further information.
After ten days of arctic blast temperatures, Troy joins schools across Metro Detroit and beyond in announcing closures. Temperatures have hovered around zero for nearly two weeks, causing two tragic deaths as elderly women with demential wandered into the snow and succumbed to exposure in the cold in Roseville and Shelby Township earlier this week.
