Wellness Check Leads To Troy Police Bust

Police arrested a Troy man after being called to a home to check on his welfare.

TROY, MI — A 22-year-old Troy man was arrested Wednesday after Troy Police officers responded to on a welfare check in the 300 block of Sheffield Street. According to police reports, officers were asked to check on the man shortly after 2 p.m. and discovered a bag of what appeared to be marijuana in his possession.

Officers field tested the bag and its contents to confirm that it was marijuana. The Troy man was then arrested and charged with possession marijuana. Officers also discovered that the 22-year-old was wanted out on a felony warrant out of the Oakland County Circuit Court.

Larceny From Automobile

  • 5455 Corporate Drive Parking Lot, 8/1/2017, 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM: Victim parked her gray 2017 Dodge Caravan in the parking lot and entered the building. When she returned to it, she found the front passenger door window broke-out and the in-dash radio / navigation system stolen.
  • 3000 block of Glouchester Avenue, 6/20/2017 – 8/1/2017: Victim discovered unknown suspect(s) stole the catalytic converter off his silver 2002 Honda Accord while the vehicle was parked in the apartment complex parking lot.

  • The Big Salad, 738 E. Big Beaver Road, 8/1/2017, 12:30 PM – 1:15 PM: Victim placed her handbag over her chair while eating and left the business, forgetting the handbag. When she returned, the handbag was recovered but it was missing her wallet which contained her State of Michigan Operator’s License, $55 in cash, and two credit cards. The victim is unsure if she left the wallet on the counter near the register or in her handbag. She is unable to provide any possible suspect(s).
  • MJR Movie Theater, 100 E. Maple Road, 8/1/2017 – 8/2/2017, 10:10 PM – 12:20 AM: Victim was at the business and at some point lost her wallet after purchasing snacks. The victim is unsure if she left it at the sales counter or dropped it along the way but discovered several attempts to use her credit card were conducted but all were declined. Along with her credit card, the wallet contained her State of Michigan Operator’s License, her United States Social Security Card, and her Wayne State University Identification Card. She is unable to provide any possible suspect(s). 17-23976

Retail Fraud

  • Louis Vuitton, 2901 W. Big Beaver Road, 7/31/2017, 6:20 PM: Two unknown males and a female suspect came to the business and stole $4,130 worth of merchandise for sale in the store. The theft was discovered after the manager was doing inventory and later reviewed CCTV footage. 17-23799

Credit, Check, Identity Theft, Other Fraud

  • 1000 block of Coolidge Highway,7/19/2017: Victim received a letter from Macy’s Department Store, notifying her that her application for credit was being declined. The victim discovered unknown suspect’s used her identity to attempt to apply for the credit. Victim did not give anyone permission to do such and does not know how her personal information was compromised. 17-23970

Domestic/Family Troubles:

  • Troy Officers responded to two incidents involving domestic disputes or family troubles during this reporting period. On-scene investigation did not produced enough evidence that any crimes of Domestic Assault were committed and no arrests were made. However, officers were required to take non-enforcement actions to either mediate the situations or keep the peace with the domestic disputes. Readers should be aware that although the incidents did not result in arrest or prosecution, it does represent significant law enforcement resources in terms of time, on-scene investigation, re location of disputants, referrals to support agencies, peace-keeping, as well as detective and prosecutorial review.
