April Trial Set For Woodbury Man Accused Of Killing Wife: Report

The trial will likely last over a week, the district judge said.

WOODBURY, MN — A trial date of April 11, 2022 has been set for McKinley Phillips, the Woodbury man accused of fatally stabbing his wife in June, The St. Paul Pioneer Press reported.

According to a hearing by Washington County District Judge Juanita Freeman on Friday, the trial will likely last over a week, the publication reported.

Phillips was charged with second-degree murder in connection to the fatal stabbing of his wife, Shavon Phillips, officials said.

Shavon Phillips was killed while six children were upstairs and was found during a wellness check, officials said. The children reportedly told police they believed their mother and stepfather, McKinley Phillips, were not home, officials said.

Phillips was later found on a bus traveling through Wisconsin to Chicago and was arrested, officials said.

The children who were in the home were put into the care of Washington County Child Protection Services, police said.
