Kansas City is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Kansas City has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.

A few things to know:

  • Did you know that Kansas City has more fountains than any other city in the world, besides Rome? With over 200 fountains scattered throughout, it’s no wonder why Kansas City was deemed “The City of Fountains.”
  • Kansas City is home to the National World War I Museum and Memorial, the only museum in the United States dedicated solely to the "war to end all wars." With interactive exhibits, immersive audiovisual displays and artifacts from the conflict, it's a must-see for history buffs.
  • The city is known for its barbecue, but did you know that Kansas City-style barbecue is a specific style of barbecue characterized by a thick, sweet and tangy sauce? Try some at one of the city's many barbecue joints, like Arthur Bryant's or Gates Bar-B-Q.
  • If you're looking for a fun outdoor activity, head to the Boulevard Brewing Company for a tour of their facilities and a taste of their award-winning beers. With a beautiful beer garden and plenty of events throughout the year, it's a great way to spend a sunny afternoon in Kansas City.
  • The city's Union Station is not only a transportation hub but also an architectural marvel. The Beaux-Arts-style building features a 95-foot-tall ceiling, three 3,500-pound chandeliers and a massive, six-foot-wide clock face.
