Fugitive Arrested In Mexico For 2008 Slaying Of Wife In Las Vegas

One of the FBI's most wanted fugitives was arrested in Mexico Thursday for the alleged involvement in the 2008 slaying of his wife.

LAS VEGAS, NV - Jesus Roberto Munguia, one of the FBI's ten most wanted fugitives, has been arrested in Mexico in connection with the 2008 murder of his wife in Las Vegas. His arrest was announced by Aaron Rouse, special agent of the FBI's Las Vegas Field Office, who said the agency arrested Munguia with the help of Mexican authorities and transported him to Los Angeles.

Munguia had an arrest warrant that charged him with murder and kidnapping. He allegedly murdered his wife on July 1, 2008 after an argument at their home. His wife, Sherryl Sacueza, was found dead inside of her vehicle on July 2, 2008. She was found beaten and tied up by her hands and neck. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police obtained an arrest warrant for Munguia after identifying him as the suspect. After law enforcement was unable to locate him, a federal arrest warrant was issued for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

On Thursday morning, Munguia was taken into custody nearly ten years after his wife's death. Rouse applauded the joint effort that resulted in Thursday's arrest.

“We are so pleased with the capture of Munguia. He will now face justice for this terrible crime, and Sherryl Sacueza’s family can begin the path to closure,” said Rouse. “We are grateful for the efforts of the government of Mexico and specifically the Mexican Navy (SEMAR) for their outstanding work in apprehending this dangerous violent fugitive. This action sends a clear message to fugitives like Munguia who think they can hide in another country: Working with our international partners, we will hunt you down, we will find you, and we will bring you to justice.”

An FBI release said that investigators have worked extensively with Sacueza's mother and four children throughout the search. Munguia was a "TEPA 13" gang member at the time of his arrest, the release says.
