Las Vegas City Council Votes For Ward 5 Special Election

An election to fill the city council seat vacated by Ricki Barlow's resignation will be held in late March, city council decided Wednesday.

LAS VEGAS, NV - Las Vegas City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to hold a special election to fill the Ward 5 council seat vacated by the resignation of former council member Ricki Barlow. The special election will be held on Tuesday, March 27.

The Ward 5 council seat has been open since Jan. 22, when Barlow announced he was resigning in the face of felony charges for misusing 2015 campaign funds. Barlow held the Ward 5 seat from 2007 until his resignation last month.

The remaining members had 30 days to appoint a new member or set the date for a special election. All voted in favor of the latter at Wednesday's city council meeting. The filing period for the election will be from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13 and Wednesday, Feb. 14 at the City Clerk's Office inside City Hall at 495 Main St.

Early voting will be held on Thursday, March 22 and Friday, March 23. The new Ward 5 representative will be sworn in at the Wednesday, April 18 Las Vegas City Council meeting.
