Las Vegas Police Lieutenant Indicted By Grand Jury

A Las Vegas police officer who has been employed by the department since 1994 was arrested on Tuesday.

LAS VEGAS, NV - Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Lt. James Melton was arrested on Tuesday after a grand jury indicted him on theft and fraud charges. Melton, who has been employed by LVMPD since 1994, will be fired without pay, a Metro release said.

The Nevada Attorney General's Office and LVMPD began investigating Melton in July. He was placed on paid leave during the investigation. After Tuesday's indictment, Melton was booked into Clark County Detention Center. A Metro release says that Melton was bailed out of CCDC.

This is a developing story.
