- A shout out to Bedford residents who are helping Ukrainian refugees in Poland. Brian Nolen and John Fitzgerald have been driving a van in Poland providing goods and bringing food to a Ukrainian refugee center, shuttling people as far as Dresden, which is 20 hours away, and donating needed military gear to Ukraine. Ken Jacobus went to Poland and paid for refugees to live at Hostel Oliwka in Warsaw, where children had a kitchen stocked with food. - A warming climate is threatening the health of New Hampshire's lakes, ponds and rivers, including Sebbins Pond, a 20-acre pond popular for fishing off of Back River Road in Bedford. Amanda McQuaid, a specialist in ecotoxicology and professor of lake ecology at the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension, said bacteria is "becoming more prevalent" in New Hampshire's lakes and ponds threatening native plants and fish. Andrea LaMoreaux, president of New Hampshire Lakes, noted that with the rise in temperature, New Hampshire's storms have higher amounts of rainfall, increasing the bacteria levels in lakes from polluted runoff. LaMoreaux said residents can help by adding native plants to their backyard to prevent run-off. You can read more here: (WMUR)
- Geo Baker, a fifth-year senior guard from Derry who plays with Rutgers University, was named The Union Leader Athlete of the Month. Other athletes considered for the honor in March included two athletes from Bedford: University of New Hampshire women’s lacrosse player Mackenzie MacEachern, and Southern New Hampshire University baseball player Trevor Anibal, a sophomore relief pitcher from Bedford!
