- Attorney Rodney Dyer, a retired attorney of Wescott Law, was awarded the 2021 Nixon-Zachos Award at the Manchester Country Club in Bedford on April 12 at the New Hampshire Bar Foundation’s Annual Dinner. The annual event honors a New Hampshire attorney whose contributions to the community and the state has had a profound impact. Attorney Dyer has served two terms as mayor of Laconia, as chair of the Laconia School Board, and co-founded the Lakes Business Group and Lakes Region Community Health and Hospice. He has also volunteered with the Salvation Army and the Boys and Girls Club, among other community contributions. (The Laconia Daily Sun)
- A bill that would loosen restrictions on short-term rentals for single-family or two-family buildings was sent to interim study, which means nothing will be decided this session. The N.H. Association of Realtors and property owners offering short-term rentals supported Senate Bill 249, but the bill was opposed by the N.H. Municipal Association, city and town officials, permanent and seasonal residents and bed and breakfast operators. Last week, Gov. Chris Sununu said he "didn't like the idea of telling towns what they can and can’t do." Two towns, Bedford and Seabrook, prohibit short-term rentals. At least 26 other towns only allow short-term rentals in certain zones, in owner-occupied units, or both. (New Hampshire Business Review)
- If you get a call from someone claiming to be a Manchester police officer saying you owe thousands of dollars in court fees, demanding payment, and threatening arrest, it's a ‘fake cop’ scammer. Police want to spread the word about the scam, when someone is pretending to be a police officer. MPD Public Information Officer Heather Hamel said several people have reported the scammer, who uses the name of an officer who actually works at the Manchester Police Department. The 'fake cop' scam has been reported in cities and towns around the country. If you get a suspicious call, note the phone number, hang up and immediately contact police by calling 603-668-8711 to report it. (Manchester Ink Link)
