  1. A shout out to five Bedford runners who completed the 26.2-mile Boston Marathon with 25,000 athletes on Monday, April 18. The finish times of the five athletes from Bedford were David Saarinen: 3:01:51, Christen Bergeron: 3:28:43, Johanna Celli: 3:53:57, Stephen Bobotas: 4:51:59, and Derek Jurus: 5:21:06. Runner Evans Chebet of Kenya won first place for the men with a finishing time of 2:06:51, and Peres Jepchirchir of Kenya won first place for the women, with a time of 02:21:01. (Bedford Patch)

The Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire in Bedford celebrated National Volunteer Appreciation Week by recognizing two "amazing volunteers," Gloria MacVane, who has volunteered with the ARLNH for 25 years; and Marie Kohler, who celebrated her 25th year this month! On its Facebook page, the ARLNH praised the women for supporting ARL’s mission and for being "two of many friendly faces here that continue to make a difference each day!"   3. Way to go, Bedford! A number of inventions by Bedford students won awards at the 36th Northern New England Invention Convention, run by the Young Inventors' Program at the UNH. Eighty-one young inventors were honored with awards for their STEM inventions. In the category "Chain Reaction Machine," the third-grade winner for the Most Complex invention was Joshua Youn of Bedford, and the Most Original invention went to Bedford's Chloe Jennerjohn and Lilianna Lewis, and Rube Goldberg — just to name a few. All of the winners will head to the Invention Convention U.S. Nationals from June 1-3 at The Henry Ford in Dearborn, Michigan. You can see the full list of winners here: (Patch)
