Here are the top stories in Bedford today:

  1. Enjoy Italian food and live music with a special performance by Ivan Dalia, composer, jazz quintet leader and piano soloist at Gusto Italiano Market on 245 Wallace Road in Bedford. Start with pizza, cold cuts, cheese and a glass of Prosecco followed by a performance of Italian music by Dalia. Dalia was born in Teverola, Italy, a small town near Naples. He was blind from birth and made music his life. He attended the Conservatory of Music in Naples from the age of 11, and is an accomplished composer, provided soundtracks for several short films, and has performed in many jazz festivals. The event will be at the Gusto Italian Market on Sunday, May 15, from 6-8:30 p.m. You can buy tickets here: (Eventbrite)
  2. It's boating season in New Hampshire, and all boaters are asked to help keep New Hampshire's rivers, ponds, and lakes free of invasive aquatic plants. Here are a few good reminders by the NHDES posted on The Town of Bedford website: "1. Clean off mud, plants, animals and algae from boats, trailers and equipment. 2. Drain your boat and equipment away from the waterbody. 3. Dry anything that comes into contact with the water." The NHDES added that 11 river systems and 80 lakes and ponds in New Hampshire have invasive plants since they started battling them in the mid-1960s. (Facebook)
  3. Girl Scouts are combating climate change by planting 5 million trees in five years. They are not only planting new trees, they said they will "protect and honor new and existing trees." The program announced on Facebook will be launched across 50 states. They are partnering with the Elliott Wildlife Values Project, American Forests, and Johnson & Johnson Foundation. Planting trees helps wildlife and will help combat climate change. Girl Scouts have planted thousands of trees across the country and around the world. Girls Scouts who planted a tree can track it here: (Facebook)
