Here are the top 3 stories today in Bedford:
- Sebbins Pond in Bedford is experiencing a bacteria bloom, causing the state to issue a Cyanobacteria Bloom Advisory. The bacteria bloom at Sebbins Pond was first noticed Wednesday morning, as "bright green flecks" swirled on the water's surface and along shorelines. In the announcement, the DES said the advisory is a "precautionary measure" for short term exposure and advise to "avoid contact with the water" in areas experiencing a bacteria bloom. The DES announcement said that the cyanobacteria advisory went into effect on July 20 and will remain in effect until NHDES confirms that the bloom has subsided. (NH DES)
- Enjoy free live music concerts every Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at the Bedford Gazebo stage at the Bedford Village Common. The live outdoor music series is every Wednesday in July and August, with fun performances by talented musicians and bands. On their website, Parks and Rec. said it best: "Pack your coolers, bring a picnic dinner, your lawn chair or blanket, and put on your dancing shoes!" On July 27, The Gazebo stage will come alive with fun music by the “Bel Airs," a Doo Wop vocal quintet. You can find out more here: (Town of Bedford)
- Did you know that New Hampshire has 16 kinds of bumble bees? And that three native bumble bees are endangered? That's what Mary Tebo Davis, of the UNH Cooperative Extension Program, explained in an interview with WMUR's Ray Brewer of "Grow it Green." She said we can help support the native bee population, which is essential for specific plants they pollinate, and that wildlife needs to eat, by planting native New Hampshire plants that bumble bees need for pollen and nectar. A few good choices of plants native to the Granite State are butterfly weed, flowering raspberry, meadowsweet, and native Carolina and Virginia roses. You can find out more here: (WMUR)
