- With the beautiful May weather, we are all very excited to spend more time outside enjoying bike riding, jogging, walking and running on trails, roads, and sidewalks of Bedford — especially the new forever sidewalk on Route 101. May is also Bicycle Safety Awareness month. Officer Danielle Nightingale of the Bedford Police department has these safety tips for anyone jogging, running, walking or cycling in Bedford. For walkers and runners, walk against the flow of traffic and on sidewalks so you can see oncoming cars. Stay alert! Keep the volume of podcasts and music down when walking on the side of a road or crossing the street and stay aware of what's happening around you. Bicyclists, stay as far to the right on the road as you can and use all hand signals. Drivers, if you see a pedestrians or bicyclist, you must always yield to them. Enjoy the summer but don't leave the responsibility of road safety to others, Officer Nightingale added. (Facebook)
