Here are the top stories today in Bedford:
- Traveling south to Nashua or north to Bedford may be a lot faster. A plan to widen the F.E. Everett Turnpike between Nashua and Bedford will go before the Executive Council on Wednesday. The $20.5-million contract would cover the first phase of widening 12 miles of the Turnpike north of Exit 13 and the Bedford toll plaza to the intersection of Interstate 293. Alvin J. Coleman & Son of Conway had the lowest of two bids. When finished, officials say that traffic backups during the morning commute going south to Nashua, and the evening commute northbound during rush hour, will be alleviated. Turnpike toll revenues are paying for the project. You can read the full story here (with a subscription): (The Union Leader)
- Bedford residents, bring your food waste to the Transfer Station for composting in a compostable bag or paper bag (but not in a plastic bag) and you can compost food waste for free. Look for the large blue bins next to the Solid Waste Building and the Recycling Center. Composting is an easy, sustainable way to make a positive impact on the environment that officials say can help Bedford save money. Valuable nutrients in composted food waste can be used in the soil as a natural fertilizer as a natural alternative to expensive chemical fertilizer in only six to nine months, officials said. - If you are flying out of the Manchester or Boston airport, check your flight status. Severe storms in the South over the weekend caused dozens of cancellations and delays, and more storms are expected later this week. A backlog of canceled and delayed flights caused travel headaches that trickled into Monday, airport officials said. Spirit Airlines had two canceled flights and one delayed flight, while Southwest also had to delay a flight at the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport on Monday morning due to the turbulent weather. From our sponsor:
Where should you invest as a Bedford resident with a $149,000 nest egg? Thanks to a change in the legal code, there’s a new investment Bedford residents need to know about. In fact, Bloomberg asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now and many of them chose it.
This may surprise you, but it’s fine art.
Growing your nest egg with art isn’t new. Wealthy families like the Rockefellers have done it for centuries.
Here’s why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2 percent when inflation is >3 percent
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164 percent (1995-2021)
Translation: Art could be one of the best investments for uncertain times.
Luckily for you, we found Masterworks. This revolutionary platform lets you invest in art by Warhol, Monet, Picasso without spending millions.
The best part? Anyone from your area can skip their waitlist*.
