Marine Patrol Investigating A Drowning On Hampton Beach
A teenager drowned on Sunday night due to strong ocean currents, investigators say.

HAMPTON, NH — Marine Patrol is investigating a drowning on Sunday night at Hampton Beach, according to New Hampshire State Police.
Around 6:45 p.m., investigators received a report about a 17-year-old boy who possibly drowned. The teen was swimming with family members when he was pulled away from shore due to the strong ocean current, according to witnesses. His father entered the water in an attempt to rescue him but also became distressed.
“Although state beach patrol lifeguards were off duty at the time of the incident, they were called back and responded quickly to the scene,” state police said. “The lifeguards entered the water and brought the teen and his father to shore, where lifesaving efforts were immediately initiated on the teen. Both were then transported to Exeter Hospital, where the teen was pronounced deceased.”
