Forecasters: 12 To 18 Inches Of Snow Heading To New Hampshire

Reports: "Huge snowstorm" for the region on Friday and Saturday with blizzard conditions, high winds; possible "bomb cyclone" expected.

NEW HAMPSHIRE — Some weather forecasters are warning of a huge snowstorm this weekend in New Hampshire.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook alert on Wednesday warning of temperatures below zero around the state during the evening as well as a storm making its way north.

“Low pressure is forecast to track from the Carolina coast northeast to near New England Saturday,” the alert stated. “There is still uncertainty in the track and strength of the system, but this system has the potential to bring significant snow, strong winds, and coastal flooding.”

AccuWeather.com, however, said the region’s next storm “could be a huge snowstorm for New England.” The storm, if it intensifies, could be classified as a “bomb cyclone” — when air pressure falls and the wind rushes to the center of the storm faster than expected, according to forecasters. Blizzard conditions are expected, a report stated.

As much as 12 to 18 inches of snow is expected in New Hampshire, according to AccuWeather.com. The Seacoast will see high-impact wind which may lead to downed trees, power outages, and possible flooding and beach erosion.

Forecasters did warn, however, that if the storm tracks west, the heavier snow and wind conditions will be seen in the central and western parts of the state and not the Seacoast.
