NH Fugitive Captured in Michigan After Year-Long Hunt
Shaun Ellis was wanted for failure to appear on charges of forged or false prescriptions.
A New Hampshire fugitive who had been on the run for a year was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Brownstown Township, Michigan on Thursday.
Shaun Ellis, 52, was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant issued out of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear on charges of forged or false prescriptions. He was last known to reside in Unity when the warrant was issued in January of 2012 and he fled the area.
Ellis was featured by local media outlets as the "Fugitive of the Week" during the week of March 7, 2013 on behalf of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office who was actively seeking to locate and arrest him.
The "Fugitive of the Week" feature was instrumental in locating and arresting Ellis. It was due to the extensive internet postings that a tipster recognized Ellis and called in a tip to the U.S. Marshal’s Office. This information was developed and shared with the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force in Eastern Michigan.
Deputy U.S. Marshals, along with task force officers and local police officers conducted a period of extensive surveillance Thursday which led to the observance of Ellis. He was eventually stopped as the passenger in a motor vehicle and placed into custody without incident.
Ellis was transported to the Wayne County Jail in Detroit, Michigan, where he is currently being held as a fugitive from justice on the outstanding New Hampshire warrant. He will have a court hearing in Michigan and then the process to have Ellis returned to Sullivan County, New Hampshire will begin.
