1 Dead, 1 Seriously Injured After Garden State Parkway Crash In Ocean County

Police said the driver was ejected after veering off the parkway and going down an embankment. Two children in the back seat were not hurt.

BARNEGAT, NJ — A Lacey man is dead and a woman is seriously injured after a one-vehicle crash on the Garden State Parkway on Thursday in Barnegat, said police.

Two juveniles in the back seat were not hurt after the Infiniti SUV veered off the road, traveled down an embankment, and hit a retaining wall and multiple trees, added officials.

State police said driver George M. Francis of Lanoka Harbor was southbound on the GSP in an Infiniti EX35 when the vehicle ran off the road to the right around 5 p.m., near mile marker 68.2. Francis, 34, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.

The front seat passenger, 34-year-old Bridget Francis, had serious injuries, per police. The children were unharmed.

The crash remains under investigation, and no further information is available as of Friday morning.
