BARNEGAT, NJ — On June 18, when Barnegat High School seniors graduate, among them will be six pairs of twins.

As the twins prepare for their next step into the future, they shared memories, challenges and advice for future twins coming into the school in a district news release.

Ashley and Alexis Cosmanic

These two 18-year-olds have had their troubles as twins like mistaken identity, but said they are thrilled to depend on each other. They especially are looking forward to senior prom.

“We stick together and have each other’s back,” said Alexis. This is also the advice she gives to incoming BHS twins. Ashley wants to remind soon-to-be BHS freshman twins to “just be themselves.”

Ashley finds mythology interesting and enjoyed her Hero Myths and Monsters class at BHS. Alexis plans to attend college and study radiology after graduation.

Riley and Reese Donlon

Although twins, these 18-year-olds explored separate interests at BHS, while also creating memories as they explored Disney World, New York City and Washington D.C. together.

Riley joined the BHS dance team, student government, spirit club, interact club, world language club, Dylan’s Wing of Change and the fishing club. She enjoyed learning about anatomy and physiology and, upon graduating, plans to attend Eastern University to study nursing and join the dance team.

Reese participated in the school’s lacrosse, field hockey and soccer teams, spirit club, student government, world language club, history club and French honor society. Geometry was her favorite class at BHS, and she plans to further her education at Ocean County College.

“Don’t be afraid to be separated and do different things without your twin because you will learn things about yourself and each of you will grow,” said Riley. “But still lean on each other and be each other’s best friend, support each other and just enjoy high school as an individual and a twin.”

Nicholas and Joseph Ficorilli

Nicholas and Joseph spent a lot of time together honing their skills together on the BHS Varsity soccer field, which the 18-year-olds joined in their freshman year. Now, they look forward to continuing to grow together as they play the sport at Ocean County College this fall.

Nicholas’ favorite class at BHS was Advanced Placement Government because he said he believes it prepared him the most for life after high school. Besides varsity soccer, Nicholas was the President of the National Honor Society, a member of the spirit club, interact club, Dylan's Wings of Change, Spanish Honor Society and the Rho Kappa Honor Society.

Like his brother, Joseph also preferred studying Advanced Placement Government at BHS. Along with varsity soccer, Joseph joined the varsity track team, is a member of the National Honor Society, Rho Kappa, the Spanish Honor Society, Dylan's Wings of Change, spirit club, interact club, and rumble. He also participated in the Mr. Bengal competition.

Both Nicholas and Joseph said being a twin is wonderful and they can always rely on one another.

“God gave you your twin for a reason,” said Nicholas. “Having a twin automatically gives you one friend and they are a great person to have with you as you transition from middle school to high school.”

Ayden and Addison Fillman

This duo says they loved driving to school together each morning, though Ayden's favorite memory has yet to happen - sitting next to his sister as their names get called during the commencement ceremony.

Ayden enjoyed making BHS memories with his friends, too, especially in gym class and while playing on the football and lacrosse teams. Upon graduation, Ayden is looking forward to becoming an electrician.

Addison played on the BHS girls volleyball team since freshman year and was involved with multiple clubs such as the spirit club and interact club. While at BHS, Addison loved studying Anatomy. She plans to attend Ocean County College for two years. Then she will transfer to a four-year college and study a major in the nursing field.

Both twins said it is important for others to remember to “be their own person.” “Just be yourself,” said Ayden. “Don’t worry what others may think or say.”

Corey and Kyle Greenleaf

Corey and Kyle took the stage together this year, singing in BHS's Mr. Bengal competition.

One challenge Kyle shared is having to share a car when the two 18-year-olds are going out to different events.

Corey added, “Being a twin comes with name confusion, people sometimes call me Kyle. Another challenge is finding ways to separate yourself from your twin. We are two different people, doing two different things, and doing what we want to do even if it’s not the same thing.”

Kyle joined cross country, basketball and track at BHS. His favorite class was forensics and anatomy, and he will attend Stockton University in the fall. His advice for incoming freshman twins is, “utilize the blessing of an extra brain. Always work together and support each other.”

Corey appreciates the challenges English class brings, and played on the basketball, track and field, and volleyball teams. He, too, will attend Stockton University in the fall.

Olivia and Alexandra Idone

Olivia's fondest memory is her senior trip to Disney World with her twin; Alexandra's is playing on BHS’s field hockey team with Olivia. Both girls, 17, are looking forward to making more memories together when they attend Stockton University in the fall.

Besides field hockey, Olivia was a member of the basketball team, track and field team and spirit club. Her best-loved BHS class was Physics.

Alexandra was also part of the spirit club and a manager for the girls basketball team. History was her most beloved BHS class.

Olivia offers this advice to new high school twin students, “Don’t be afraid to try new things with your twin. As long as you have your twin with you, you’ll never be alone.”
