Barnegat Lighthouse State Park Still Open During Beach Fill Work
But park does close during inclement weather

BARNEGAT LIGHT, NJ - Visitors to Barnegat Lighthouse State Park can still come to the park while a beach fill project by the state Department of Transportation is ongoing.
The project began on Dec. 4 and will take roughly two weeks, according the state Department of Environmental Protection's website.
The project includes an inflow pipe from the inlet onto the beach, a bermed 5-acre discharge area and an outflow pipe over the jetty (east of the walkway) into the inlet. Pumping will occur 24 hours a day/seven days a week. Once the pumping is finished, the berm will be knocked down and the new sand will remain on the beach.

However, access on the walkway will be restricted at the point where the pipe crosses the walkway, approximately 100 feet from the lighthouse. There will be a ramp over the inflow pipe on the beach for pedestrian traffic to access the eastern part of the park.
The project will not affect park hours or lighthouse hours and should be finished by the end of the year, according to the DEP website.
