The standoff on Cape Cod Avenue in Barnegat that began Sunday evening is over and police have a subject in custody, app.com says.

Barnegat police advised residents who live on Cape Cod Avenue in Barnegat to shelter in place due to police activity, according to a Nixle alert. The alert was issued at 8:26 p.m.

As of midnight, police were talking to a man inside a home on Cape Cod Avenue to try and resolve a standoff, according to a report in app.com.

Barnegat police issued another Nixle alert shortly after 1 a.m. advising residents that the "police activity" in the area was concluded and it was safe to resume normal activities.seat .

Initial reports were that the situation may have started as a possible domestic dispute, according to authorities. However, officials said they believe the man is alone inside the house.

The incident led to a heavy police presence in the neighborhood and police shut down nearby roads, according to the report.
