Cape Cod Avenue Resident Taken Into Custody After Six Hour Standoff, Barnegat Police Say
Police recovered guns and ammunition from the house.

Barnegat police have charged a Cape Cod Avenue man with obstruction of the law, after a six-hour standoff that led to a "shelter in place" order for Ocean Acres residents.
The 48-year-old man, whose name was not released, held police at bay, refused commands to leave his home, locked himself inside and threatened to leave the home and use a firearm, according to a post on the department's Facebook page.
Officers originally responded to the home at 7:20 p.m. on a report of a dispute and determined there was no one else in the home. They issued a "shelter in place" order for area residents and secured the scene.
Officers continued a dialogue with the subject in an attempt to safely resolve the incident.

The man surrendered after six hours and was taken into custody without incident, the post states.
Officers recovered three handguns, a shotgun, a 9mm carbine, numerous edged weapons, and approximately 3,000 rounds of ammunition from the residence.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and the Ocean County Regional SWAT provided tactical and logistical support and expertise. The Ocean County Sheriff's Departmen provided K-9 officers, negotiators, perimeter security, traffic control and logistical support. Stafford police and the Barnegat Township First Aid squad, MONOC also assisted.
Police also thanked the residents of Cape Cod Avenue and nearby streets for being "exceedingly cooperative," which allowed officers to resolve the incident safely
The man was taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center. He was charged with obstruction of the administration of the law, the post states.
