Cub Scout Pack 26 surprised Barnegat PBA 296 with a $2,000 check last weekend in celebration of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

BARNEGAT, NJ — Cub Scout Pack 26 surprised Barnegat PBA 296 with a $2,000 check on Sunday in celebration of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
The donation was raised by five cub scouts who designed and sold lawn signs that declare “Proud to support Barnegat Police.”
Cub scouts David Padgett, Ethan Eannone, Ryan Slade, Michael Merlin and Xavier Kunzel sold 150 signs to community members on social media and at different eateries throughout Barnegat including Big Barlow’s BBQ, Jersey Mikes and Dolce Bagel & Pizza Café over the past three weeks.

Chris Ebert, State Delegate of Barnegat PBA 296, said the scouts’ donation will help members attend the Police Unity Tour, an annual four-day bicycle ride to Washington D.C. that raises funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
Laurie Padgett helped scout leader Rhonda Slade organize the project with Cub Scout Pack 26.

Padgett said they initially planned to present the donation to Barnegat PBA for Christmas, but decided to wait until the weekend of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, which is observed annually on Jan. 9.
“The boys were really into it and still to this day they’re excited when they drive around town and they’re like ‘Wow there’s another one of our signs!’” Padgett told Patch.
