'Desperate Need': Manahawkin Animal Shelter Seeks Coats, Cash After Hoarding Case
After taking in animals from the Brick hoarding case, the county's Manahawkin animal facility is in need of coats and monetary donations.

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — After the rescue of 180 cats and dogs from a hoarding situation in Brick, the Southern Ocean County Animal Facility shared that they received an "overwhelming response" of donations.
Seventeen dogs and eight cats were taken to the county's southern shelter, Dan Regenye, the public health coordinator for the Ocean County Health Department, told Patch. Read More: Dogs, Cats From Brick 'Puppy Mill' Under Ocean County's Care
Even more were taken to the county's emergency shelter in Barnegat.

Over the weekend, the Friends of Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter asked for donations of things like dog shampoo and blankets. But so many came to help, they quickly updated that they were no longer in need.
"Thanks so much to everyone who reached out to help with the hoarding situation," they wrote on social media. "We are so grateful for the overwhelming response."

However, the shelter is in "desperate need" of monetary donations, as the animals need veterinary care.
If you wish to donate more, the shelter said it only needs sweaters and coats, particularly for small or medium sized dogs.
"These pups are not used to going outside therefore these cold temps are little tougher for them," the shelter wrote on social media.
Donations are accepted through the Friends' website, by mail to Fosocas, P.O. 1162, Manahawkin, NJ or through Venmo @ Fosocas Fosocas. They also have an Amazon wish list so you can send specific items.
