Project Lifesaver Band Helps Stafford Police Find Missing Senior
Stafford Township police located a missing man with Alzheimer's and dementia due to the aid of a tracking bracelet.
MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Stafford Township police located a missing man with Alzheimer’s and dementia due to the aid of a tracking bracelet.
Stafford Township police responded to a missing person report on Feb. 19 after a 77-year-old man with Alzheimer’s and dementia went missing near Jennings Road in Manahawkin at 7 p.m., police said. Police searched the area, with no immediate findings.
“Fortunately, the missing resident was wearing a Project Lifesaver bracelet, a wristband tracking device utilized by the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office to quickly locate missing individuals,” police said.

Officers from Ocean County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area and quickly located the man near a creek about 100 feet into the woods and unable to find his way out, police said.
Stafford Township Emergency Medical Services evaluated the man due to the cold weather conditions and then took him back to his home.
Project Lifesaver is a program designed to rapidly locate lost individuals who may have cognitive conditions such as Alzheimer’s, Down syndrome, Autism or other related mental dysfunction disorders.

The wristband emits a tracking signal, enabling law enforcement officers to locate missing people.
