Rough Surf, Moderate Risk of Rip Currents On Long Beach Island

Waves of up to 7 feet are expected today, National Weather Service says

LONG BEACH ISLAND, NJ - If you have plans for the beach today, you might want to rethink them.

The National Weather Service is calling for 7-foot high waves with easterly swells of 4 to 6 feet. There's also a moderate rip current risk. Rips can occur anytime, any place, especially near jetties and other structures. Very few beaches are guarded this late in the season. The ocean water temperature is 72 degrees.

And if that isn't enough, skies will be mostly cloudy, with showers are expected during much of the day. Southeasterly winds will be brisk at 15 to 20 miles per hour. Highs today will only be in the mid 70s.
