Social Media Posts About Charlie Kirk Under Review By Southern Ocean School District
Posts about Charlie Kirk's assassination have drawn public concern, including posts from Little Egg Harbor school staff.

LITTLE EGG HARBOR, NJ — In the wake of political activist Charlie Kirk's assassination, many are sharing their thoughts and feelings through social media posts. And some of those posts are getting reported to the poster's employers, as is the case in the Little Egg Harbor Township School District.
Superintendent Lisa Antunes released a letter to the school community, addressing posts allegedly made by district staff.
"In the wake of this national tragedy, we have observed a wide range of emotional responses. As is common in the digital age, many individuals—including educators and public servants—have turned to social media to express their personal reactions," Antunes wrote. "Some of these posts, attributed to members of our staff, have drawn public concern and are currently under review by the District."

New Jersey Project, a conservative group of parents, has been sharing screenshots calling out people, including teachers, for their social media posts. These screenshots include the person's full name and their apparent place of work, though it is unclear if this information has been verified.
One of these posts claims to identify a Little Egg Harbor Township teacher.

"Little Egg Harbor School District holds its employees to the highest professional standards. While we unequivocally respect the constitutional rights of free speech afforded to all individuals, including our staff members, we also recognize that with these rights come responsibilities—particularly for those entrusted with the education and care of our students," Antunes wrote. "Any conduct, including online communication, that may compromise the inclusive, respectful, and safe environment we are committed to maintaining in our schools will be reviewed in accordance with applicable policies, employment agreements, and legal standards."
Antunes urged empathy and said the district aims to provide a learning environment that is "safe, supportive, and apolitical."
The district does have a social media policy for staff members, which says that employees should post professionally and ensure that their posts do not damage the district's reputation.
"While the Board respects the right of staff members to use social networking sites, staff members should recognize they are held to a higher standard than the general public with regard to standards of conduct and ethics," the policy reads.
This week, a New Jersey doctor resigned after his Kirk comments were reported. Jimmy Kimmel had his show suspended by ABC Wednesday after his comments.
The employment status of any Little Egg Harbor Township School District staff members under investigation was not clear.
